What affects the price of a hand dryer

  • Motor. A brushless motor costs more but lasts longer and suits busy sites. The BulletDri shows the difference: £179.90 with a standard motor for small offices, or £399.90 with a brushless motor for offices of any size, railways and airports.
  • Filtration. HEPA filters clean the air before it reaches your hands. Two-thirds of our range has one, from £179.90 upwards, and the Jet Force Junior and Stealthforce Plus also sterilise their filters with UV light.
  • Type. Hands-under dryers start at £99.90. Blade (hands in) dryers start at £329.90, over-the-sink wash-and-dry units at £399.90, and concealed behind-the-mirror dryers at £599.90.
  • Materials and finish. Stainless steel covers, brass and copper finishes and antimicrobial covers add to the price.
  • Extras. Over-the-sink dryers can be bought alone or as a set with a matching sensor tap and soap dispenser.

Whatever you spend, every Dryflow hand dryer comes with free repairs for life and up to 10 years' warranty.

Running costs: hand dryers vs paper towels

Most of our hand dryers give between 1,800 and 3,000 dries per £1 of electricity. Paper towels give 143.

How quickly does a hand dryer pay for itself?

Take a busy washroom with 200 dries a day, five days a week, 50 weeks a year. That's 50,000 dries.

  • Paper towels: about £350 a year, before bins, waste collection and restocking.
  • BulletDri: about £18 to £20 a year in electricity.
  • Viska: about £4 a year.

At that rate, a £179.90 BulletDri or a £199.90 Viska pays for itself in about 7 months, and a £399.90 BulletDri Plus in about 15 months, before installation costs.

How much electricity does a hand dryer use?

Running cost depends on a dryer's power and how long each dry takes, not wattage alone. The Connect runs at 400W and the G-Force MKII can run at 420W. The BulletDri Plus is rated at 0.55kW to 1kW, which works out at 1.83 to 2.78 Wh per dry. Many of our dryers also let you switch the heater off, or only heat when the washroom is cold, to cut energy use further.

What if I pay more than 20p per kWh?

Our figures assume 20p per kWh. To adjust them, multiply by your tariff and divide by 20. At 30p per kWh, the BulletDri's 50,000 dries would cost about £27 to £30 a year instead of £18 to £20, still a fraction of the cost of paper towels.

Energy-efficient hand dryers

For the lowest running costs, the Viska gives 12,500 dries per £1 of electricity. Eight of our hand dryers are also verified carbon neutral by ClimatePartner. See the carbon neutral range.
